A Groom's Guide to Choosing a Wedding Band

There are 5 things to consider when choosing a wedding band for the groom. In this article, we'll go over the basics to make this process less daunting for those that don't know where to start. We'll discuss: metal colour, band width, design, style, and fit.

Metal Colour

Your options include:

  • yellow gold
  • white gold
  • rose gold

You can choose any of these three or a combination of them.

Band Width

There are tons of options here. Choose something thin like 3 mm or thick like 8 mm. The most common options are between 5-6 mm.

Design

Options include:

  • plain and shiny
  • grain etching
  • flat or rounded
  • bevelled edge
  • finish

Fit

Options include comfort fit or regular fit.

Comfort fit means that there is an extra layer of gold on the inside of the band to create a smooth slide as it comes on and off the finger. This makes a big difference for men's bands which typically much thicker than women's. Adding comfort fit adds a marginal cost, so many people find it worthwhile. It makes the ring a little heavier and thicker around the edges.
